The Baby Penguin Learn Swim Teach By Zoo Keeper


Mr. Alastair Keen, zoo keeper at the Birdland Park and Gardens, Gloucestshire, has achieved a feat, which not many would have accomplished in their lifetime. He also has been teach how to swim to female penguin using his directions.

The Charlotte was the first one in many years at the Park to be born a female penguin and everyone was quite excited for her. However, when she started growing and lost her feathers, there was another curious thing, which happened. She was refusing to move into the pool with other penguin friends. She made desperate attempts of avoiding the water. This is where Alastair came into the picture. He gave one on one lesson to Charlotte to overcome her fear of water by donning a wetsuit and going into the pool himself.

Nowadays, she like and spending more time in the pool. Compared to other penguins, who go in at maximum twice a day, she gets a dip at least 6-7 times a day. She is also one of the popular birds for the tourists, who come to visit there. And all the credits for her popularity should go to his Keeper, Mr. Alastair, who himself says that it was worth the effort.
